Monyhull Church is one of a few remaining buildings on the site of a former Psychiatric Hospital. The master plan to redevelop the site for housing identified the former Hospital chapel as a centrepiece to the new community.

Great care has been taken to integrate the Annexe into its surroundings with a responsive and contemporary building. A roof form has been developed composed of a mono-pitch with three long dormers to minimise the Annexe's height against the church with the three gable ends responding to the church's north facing transept gables.

High thermal mass construction has been designed to naturally modulate heat gains without the need for mechanical cooling. Window areas have been maximised to reduce the reliance on artificial lighting. The annexe is compact and simple in plan, but has been designed to be flexible in use and life.
