D5 Architects were commissioned by a private client to design a contemporary country house set within the Warwickshire green belt. The project involves the redevelopment of an existing farmstead, with removal of ad-hoc shed structures and renovation and retention of original threshing barn, stables and milking parlour. The new house's form was inspired by the gently rolling topography of the site, which lead to a sinuous, undulating composite timber grid-shell structure, appearing to float over glass walls beneath. The building includes a number of sustainable techniques including a newly formed lake, which manages rainwater discharge off the property, combined with newly formed reed beds to filter waste water. The house is also heated in winter and cooled in summer through ground source heat pump technology. Full Planning Approval was received under the discriminating planning policy PPS7, making Danzy Farm only the 15th house in the country to receive such approval.
