The existing bar suffered reduced patronage and therefore sales with student complaints about secluded, partitioned and stepped areas with poor lighting for daytime use making the bar dark and intimidating.
D5's brief was to create a bright, vibrant, flexible space, for daytime eating, drinking and hanging out, which would also be adaptable for a variety of evening events. D5's solution was to open all of the available accommodation into one flexible space with areas for playing pool, eating & drinking in large groups and a sofa area next to the dance floor. Using differing furniture types, ceiling heights and lighting, combined with a vibrant colour scheme including bespoke graffiti murals the project successfully reinvigorated patronage of the bar.
At short notice, the project was designed, tendered and constructed to meet a pre-fixed completion date to enable fresher's week events to be hosted in the bar.
