Following completion of the main campus re-development, D5 Architects were commissioned by N.E.W. College to design a new building to replace the college's dependence on public facilities and meet the increased demand for both recreational and educational sports facilities.
The new building is to be built on the existing college campus to provide a new 4 badminton court sports hall, fitness suite, teaching/ therapy suites and associated changing facilities.
The project aims to maximise use of natural energy resources in order to reduce cost in use in terms of energy usage, plant maintenance and optimisation of controls. The building is also designed to maximise the use of natural daylight whilst controlling glare and overheating by using solar shading and insulated translucent panels for the high level glazed elements.
